Hestu is a secret vendor in Zelda: Breath of the Wild; he is important because he is the only one who can increase your inventory. That is, if you want to expand the number of slots in your bow, weapon, and shield stashes, Hestu is the man for you.
Like most features of this game, which come with a price, Hestu will demand something to increase your inventory. In this instance, the price is Korok Seeds. And you can find them all over Hyrule.
Normally, locating Hestu can be a bit difficult especially since he has a horrible sense of direction. For instance, he could tell you he’s headed to the Korok Forest only for you to find him at an entirely different location.
However, if you are familiar with traveling along Hyrule’s main roads and have access to the right information, you will find it easy to locate him.
In this guide, you will learn where these places are and how to find them.
Where Can You Find Hestu?
You can find Hestu in three different locations in Zelda: Breath of the Wild. These locations are:
The first place you can find Hestu is by the tree along the main road of Kakariko village’s southern end. To arrive at this road, do the following:
- Go through the entrance or exit at the southern end of the village.
- Proceed through the winding rocky track that extends through Bonooru’s Stand and Pillars of Levia to the cliff close to Lake Silea. Eventually, you will come to a tree where you will find Hestu.
Alternatively, you can paraglide from either Bonooru’s Stand or Pillars of Levia to Hestu’s location.
When you first come across Hestu, he will be surprised you can see him unlike other Hyrule residents. After his initial shock, he will inform you about the loss of his precious Maracas, which you will be tasked to find for him. While you will be recovering this item for him, you should note that finding it also benefits you. The reason is that it is what gives Hestu the power to increase inventory.
The Precious Maracas
Recovering “The Precious Maracas” is a quest on its own and you have to complete this quest if you are to get it back to Hestu.
This quest is simple: locate the group of Bokoblins residing to the east of Hestu’s location. Then, catch up to and eliminate them. If you are successful, you will find a treasure chest. And it is inside this chest that you will find Hestu’s beloved item.
When you return his Maracas, Hestu will increase your inventory twice. After this, he will inform you he is heading to the Korok Forest.
Tip: To locate these Bokoblins, look out for the rocky arch leading from the Bokoblins’ camp, east of where you are.
Even though he told you he’s heading to the Korok Forest, he does not. Instead, he proceeds to the road close to the Riverside Stable. Track him there.
When you arrive, you’ll find Hestu close to the tree by the main road after the Riverside Stable. If you are unable to identify this tree, look for the Wahgo Katta Shrine – it and the tree are directly opposite each other. If you still cannot locate it, check the opposite end of the road between Whistling Hill and Hylia River.
Unlike the first location where Hestu could increase your inventory twice, here, you can ask him for up to six upgrades. However, after the sixth time, he will inform you that he has to travel to the north towards the Korok Forest; this time, you can trust him.
If, however, you do not find Hestu in the vicinity of the Riverside Stable after your first meeting, it is possible he has moved on to the Wetlands or Woodlands Stable. And if he is not in either of these places, he could very well have kept his word and gone to the Korok Forest.
After your first and second meetings with Hestu, your third and final meeting will be at the Korok Forest. You’ll find him standing on a mound situated to the east of the Master Sword pedestal. It is easy to get lost while traveling to the Korok Forest. To avoid this, go by way of the Lost Woods.
Since this is Hestu’s final location, he’ll make stop here for the rest of the game. So, you can be sure you will find him.
To earn quick item slot upgrades, you can enter the Korok Forest by teleporting through the Keo Ruug Shrine. However, ensure you activate it – the shrine – before proceeding past the Lost Woods into the Korok Forest.
